2017 Report for Results of LABC Research into the Benefits of Building Control Interventions at the Plan Assessment Stage shared with LABSS

Local authorities undertake a formal plan assessment on full plans building regulations applications.  LABC members consider these assessments to be a major contributor in achieving compliance before materials are bought and work begins on site.  Therefore, the interventions prevent the wasted time and money costs of correcting faults that would otherwise occur during construction.In terms of relevance to Scotland LABSS would point out that our system is all about pre-emptive approval – you must have approval BEFORE you start the works - this maximises the benefits that LABC highlight in their research findings - a major strength of our system
